Hacienda
Ventura County, California
Conceptual rendering of the interior courtyard

Originally designed by John Bryers in the1920s. The Hacienda has had only one previous owner, and although it suffered substantial damage from a fire several years ago, it is now under careful restoration and expansion by the current owner. The original structure was detailed to read as an early California rancho / hacienda. Restoration of the main house is expected to begin this summer. The new design will retain much of the original structure not damaged, and add additional bedrooms, offices and a long enclosed portal for internal circulation. While modernizing the structure for current earthquake codes and updating the floorplan to meet the current owners' living requirements, great care and attention to preserving the original detailing will be exercised to preserve the 1920s feel. Restoration will include re-creating original floor and wall tiles from the Malibu Potteries (1926-1932) so that new portions of the house will mesh seamlessly with the old.
